BIG FEELINGS, WILD BEAST

Arta Volbeta and Karīna Volbeta

In the exhibition “Big Feelings, Wild Beast”, the interconnected stories of two sisters, graphic artists Arta Volbeta and Karīna Volbeta, come together.

At the exhibition opening on June 13 from 17:00, visitors will have the opportunity to take part in a screen-printing workshop led by Karīna Volbeta, as well as to move together with the third sister — dancer Kristianna (Kristianna Volbeta) — and musician Multilux.

Arta’s works create a symbolic space for big feelings — emotions that are difficult to name, but that fill the body and everyday life with their presence.

Meanwhile, Karīna’s story is about encouragement to live and act despite fear.

Karīna: “When my dog Rūbija was little and used to tremble a lot and was afraid of everything, I told her: ‘You are a wild beast, let’s go!’ Essentially, I have also drawn various beasts and beings that represent how it is when one is afraid but still manages to act.”

The exhibition is about vulnerability, courage, and the ability to live with big emotions without allowing them to stop movement forward.

Arta Volbeta holds a Master’s degree in Graphic Arts from the Art Academy of Latvia (2024). The Daugava Museum exhibition Salas sakne (2023) was her first joint exhibition with her sister Karīna Volbeta. Arta has participated in several group exhibitions: in Tokyo, B-gallery, Second Latvia–Japan Miniature Print Exhibition (2023), and the Third TKO International Miniature Print Exhibition 2024 (Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka).

Karīna Volbeta graduated from the Graphic Arts Department of the Art Academy of Latvia. She works in illustration, creating visual designs for books, board games, and wallpapers.

In 2023, an exhibition by Karīna together with her sister Arta took place at the Daugava Museum.
